Our PGY-1 residents complete a year of general surgery under the direction of the orthopaedic department. In addition to the four main affiliated hospitals, the first years spend three months at New Britain General Hospital. All rotations are 1 month, unless otherwise specified. During the first 10 months of their PGY1 year orthopaedic residents are excused from the clinical duties of their rotations to attend the Friday morning Orthopaedic Surgery Educational Curriculum, the bimonthly bioskills laboratory sessions, and to teach anatomy of the spine and extremities during the first year medical student dissection labs. On selective rotations they also see patients with an orthopaedic surgery faculty member one afternoon per week.
