Closing and Cancellations

In the past, there has sometimes been confusion over the applicability of various closing announcements issued by the Governor’s Office, other State agencies, or the Storrs’ campus. The nature of the Health Center's activities requires that official notification of emergency closing decisions be made and communicated ONLY by the Health Center.

Under the revised policy, Health Center employees and students are requested to contact the Health Center’s operational status hotline at 860-679-2001 as the only reliable and official source of communication regarding delayed openings, class cancellations, or closings of the Health Center’s nonessential service units due to weather or other circumstances. With 30 dedicated lines operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you’ll know quickly if anything has changed. In the unlikely event that service of the Health Center’s Operational Status Hotline is disrupted, employees and students should call our back-up number at 860-486-9292.

We ask that you please keep the above two telephone numbers in convenient locations at home for quick access in the future.

In recent years the majority of radio and television stations in Connecticut have converted to automated systems announcing closing information. These systems restrict the scope and description of the information conveyed and do not meet the particular needs of the Health Center. Therefore, the Health Center will no longer notify radio or television stations of changes in our operational status.

A second important revision to this policy is the designation of “essential service units” and “nonessential service units.” Please review the policy addendum to determine the designation for your service unit. The Health Center’s Operational Status Hotline will advise employees of the Center’s operational status based on the service unit designation.
